Private lessons · Vista, California

Private wheel lessons.

Learn at your own pace.

I offer one-on-one and two-person wheel-throwing lessons through the Jaspert Pottery studio in Vista. Sessions are beginner-friendly through advanced and can be shaped around what you actually want to learn.

If you are brand new, we can start with the fundamentals. If you already have experience, we can spend the time on centering, pulling, trimming, throwing larger, throwing off the hump, handles, or troubleshooting whatever has been giving you trouble.

There is no required project list. The goal is to give you enough time to understand what you are doing, ask questions, experiment, and leave a little more confident at the wheel.

One person $125

Two people $200

Clay, glazing, and firing are included for work suitable for firing.

How scheduling works

Send your preferred days and times, how many people are coming, and your experience level. I will reply to confirm a date. An inquiry is a request—not an automatic booking.

Learn pottery with me at my home studio in Vista. Whether it is your first time at the wheel or you are working through a specific form or technique, I want you to understand what the clay is doing, why something works, and how to make your own decisions with more confidence.

We work at your pace, with time to practice, ask questions, make mistakes, and try again.

Learning at the wheel

Pottery gives you a lot of ways to feel like you are doing something wrong. I try to show you what happened instead of only fixing it for you.

Sometimes, to learn how to make a pot, you have to break one. A collapsed piece can teach you more than a lucky good one because it gives you something real to understand and adjust the next time.

The goal is not a perfect pot in one lesson. It is leaving with a better understanding of the clay and the confidence to keep going.

If you are new to pottery

We can start with centering, opening, pulling walls, and building simple forms such as cylinders and bowls. I demonstrate each step, then help you make adjustments based on what is actually happening in your hands.

If you already throw

Lessons can focus on whatever you are trying to improve, including larger forms, handles, trimming, throwing off the hump, consistency, or a specific problem you keep running into. Bring questions, reference pieces, or even work that did not turn out the way you wanted. Troubleshooting is part of learning.
